Sanctuary Choir during Advent, St. Paul's UMC

Adult Music Ministry

To know and follow Christ, and to help others know and follow Christ, through music and fellowship that enhances our worship, our community and our lives.

Vocal Ensembles:

  • Sanctuary Choir is a mixed ensemble (SATB) singing classical literature for the 9:00 a.m. traditional service.  The group sings every Sunday, September through July, and traditionally presents two special works during the Advent and Lenten seasons.
    • Rehearsals:  Wednesday, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. (September – May)
    • Wednesday, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. (June and July)
    • Conductor: Carol A. Tralau
  • Men’s Ensemble is a select group of men singing TTBB literature.  This group sings approximately once a month in worship services.
    • Rehearsals: Tuesday, 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. (September – May)
    • Conductor: Carol A. Tralau
  • The Praise Team is a contemporary ensemble singing praise-team style literature for the Sunday Celebration worship at 10:30 and 11:30.  The group sings every Sunday throughout the year. Members sing as they are able.
    • Rehearsals:  Saturday, 10:00 am

Handbells

  • Carillonneurs is a five to six octave handbell group which plays in Sunday services nine times a year, as well as in special worship services.  This group often plays in the Cedar Rapids community, as well as surrounding areas.  Carillonneurs is comprised of experienced ringers, playing difficult music, and has frequently been a featured choir in AGEHR (American Guild of English Handbell Ringer) events.
    • Rehearsals:  Thursday, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. (Room 327)

  • Tower Bells is a four to five octave handbell group that plays in worship services nine times a year.  In addition, the ensemble participates in special concerts and performances, both within the church and out in the community. This group plays intermediate to difficult literature.
    • Rehearsals:  Wednesday, 6:30 - 7:15 p.m. (Room 327)

Instrumentalists

  • St. Paul’s members proficient in a respective instrument are provided opportunities throughout the year for special music. In particular, the St. Paul Brass ensemble meets regularly throughout the year under the direction of Dr. Mark Baumann, CAGO, but there are many other opportunities for worship accompaniment. Please contact Carol Tralau if you wish to give your musical gifts to the worship of God.
