Block by Block House

St. Paul's UMC Adopts a Block-by-Block House

We have found another means to join with the community-wide effort to rebuild flood- damaged neighborhoods. As part of the concept of restoring complete neighborhoods, the single-family residence at 1209 9th Street NW was purchased by the Block-by-Block organization.  Framing has been done with skilled volunteer labor, and electrical and plumbing work has been completed and inspected.  A skilled volunteer crew will also be conducting extensive repairs to the foundation of the building.

On February 27 and March 6, crews of St. Paul’s volunteers completed sub-flooring and began drywall installation. Mudding, taping, sanding, and painting will follow on future dates. We will also be looking into the possibilities of evening and weekday sessions.

The intricate process of sizing standard materials to match the existing structure is a challenge and a bit time-consuming, but the end result of making a sound, affordable home available to a family who needs it will make it all worthwhile.  It’s a great opportunity for fellowship, and we invite your interest and efforts, at all skill levels.
