NEIGHBORHOOD MEALS & ENRICHMENT PROGRAM REPORT

The Neighborhood Meal and Enrichment Program provides warm, nutritious meals for (but not limited to) Wellington Heights, Mound View, and Oak Hill neighborhood children and their families. A noon meal is housed at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. A noon meal is also provided at Central Park Presbyterian Church for the neighborhood children and their families. Meals were prepared and served on site. Ten community churches help sponsor the program.

Volunteers serve beverages and desserts, and act as Hosts and Hostesses during meal time by sitting and visiting with those served. The persons served then clean their own area when finished eating. Some days, when there were not enough volunteers, neighborhood persons volunteer their help.

The Program has a Program Director and a Bookkeeper who work part time year around. For the Summer, the Program has  two Food Production Managers.

Funding for the Program comes from private donations, community donations, pledges from the sponsoring churches, and limited grants from FEMA and the Department of Economic Development. The Program receives food donations from some private individuals and has access to the HACAP Food Reservoir. There is no one source of continuous funding for the Program, and so fund raising is a continual ongoing process. To eliminate any barriers to service, there is no charge for any of the Program services for any of the participants.

The Program will continue to communicate with other community groups and organizations during the year to be sure there is no duplication of services and that there is collaboration with other groups whenever possible.
