Stephen Ministry
On Sunday, August 22, St. Paul's began its first training class for 14 lay people from our congregation who desire to become Stephen Ministers, one-on-one trained caregivers to those who are experiencing a difficult time. Christ calls us to "Care for One Another". We want to be prepared to do that for each other with confidence – not just for St. Paul’s members but also those beyond our church. For 35 years, Stephen Ministry has helped thousands of congregations (all denominations) around the world become care givers. We are very thankful to now have access to the tools and wonderful support of Stephen Ministry. If you feel God has given you the gift of compassion and is calling you to become a Stephen Minister, or if you have questions of any kind, please talk with one of our Stephen Leaders. There are no special skills required. Age requirements are 18-100. Plans are to begin another training session in the Spring of 2011. We hope to decide on a schedule that works for many and would b interested in your thoughts. We will appreciate your prayerful support as all 22 of us, including eight Stephen Leaders, move forward with training. This current class will complete training Nov. 14.
Why the Name Stephen? The name Stephen comes from St. Stephen, who was the first lay person commissioned by the apostles to provide caring ministry to those in need (as recorded in Acts 6). About the Stephen Series Logo: http://www.stephenministries.org/stephenministry/default.cfm/888 |

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Matthew 9:36-38, NRSV
