To know and follow Christ, and to help others know and follow Christ

About Us

Welcome to St. Paul's United Methodist Church!

Welcome to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids Iowa.   We are a fellowship of people who strive to live our mission statement – “To know and follow Christ and to help others know and follow Christ” – throughout our lives together and through the promises of United Methodist Church membership – of prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

What to Expect

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is a historical church with a rich past that continues to live in the present and to form the future. Our past encompasses not only the historical 1914 church building designed by Louis Sullivan but also the living witness to mission and justice that has been the foundation of this congregation. So you can expect to encounter Christian love and encouragement in thoughtful sermons, insightful teaching, vibrant worship, compassionate fellowship, and faithful witness.

What We Offer

There is diversity within the congregation – of worship styles, of theological understandings, of economic situations, of generational groups. Christian education and spiritual formation are nourished through inquisitive adult Sunday school classes and small group, for all ages. Caring ministries are strong within the congregation – to those isolated by health or age – and beyond the congregation – to those lost and needing the listening ear of a sister or brother in Christ. Youth ministries are centered on Biblical teaching and engage hearts through regular mission/service projects.

How We Share Our Gifts

Spiritual formation is not limited to intellectual inquiry, but finds practical application in taking the love of Christ out into the community through missions, near and far – reaching out in mercy through neighborhood meals or distribution of health kits or offering a safe place for persons to gather; and by reaching out in justice through walks of solidarity with persons of all economic means or nurturing worship for African Nationals or providing leadership in flood recovery efforts.
